It absolutely depends on the responsiveness of the list. Some of the key factors that you should consider before you value the list is : 1. What is the total number of confirmed users. 2. How many of them are active 3. what % of them open the emails on average. 4. What % of the people who opened the emails actually click on a link. 5. What was your cost of acquisition for those customers. If your business has been around at least for a year, then you would probably have recouped your investment on customer acquisition and also will have decent amount of data to analyze the performance of your list. In general, a responsive customer's email is valued at $1 per month. So, I would give at least $12- $24 per active customer. Ex. you have a list of 10,000 active customers who actually open your email regularly and at least 50% of them take action by doing what you ask them to do, then I would multiply them by $24. $24 x 10,000 = 240,000 at the highest end. and 120,000 at the lowest end. But again, it depends on the type of market you are in and the type of product/ service you are offering. Hope that helps you in somewhat figuring it out.

Depending on the sector, getting a opt-in email in the database has a average cost. It can vary from â¬1 to â¬100. It depends on the general performance of the list, if the email address are double opt-in or not... and so on. So, surely an email list can be considered a marketing asset, and, consequently, be considered when selling the company

I've never sold an email list, but here are my thoughts based on the value of relationships and content: How much do they buy? How often do they buy? Email analytics like click through rate (this seems someone secondary in terms of being an asset when compared with the first two) What is the rate at which they are responsive to offers (purchase or opt-in another list)? (also a lower priority than 1 or 2 in my assessment) Two other assessments of value of an opt-in email list: Arguably the content (i.e. if you have an email sequence for a particular market) & relationships with other e-mail lists could also be another asset. Also potentially important--how fast the list is growing now (i.e. based on current growth rate it could double in size in 18 months with minimal upkeep).
