Is computer science a good career field?

As a computer science graduate who is interested in user experience (UX) and wants to pursue a master's degree in the field of HCI, what are the ways of enhancing my career personality?

  • When I say "career personality", I would to know what are the relevant courses, projects or work in the industry, that I can take up to ensure a grad school admit as well as a successful career in the field. PS: I like artistic design as well as programming.

  • Answer:

First of all, Design by definition is not artistic but it sure is aesthetic. Design is done to satisfy a need/design/want of a target user group whereas art is done to satisfy personal need. I would say that you can do a small project/internship with a design oriented company for a short time. Design is practical and not theoretical. You'll learn while doing. Given your CS background, you must be having good coding/development skills. Take advantage of that. Identify a genuine need in your vicinity and build a product to solve it. Then document your process to communicate whatever you will have learnt during the project. This would help you present a very strong case to the people who will be considering your application.
