Can I make a new start at the age of 25? How do I decide what line of work may suit me?
-
I am 25 and jobless. Left my first job which i got through campus placements because i found it extremely boring and it was difficult for me to adapt to their organizational culture. I am confused about my future. In my most recent job interviews my interviewer complained that i am not very forth coming. I feel out of place in this world and it looks to me as if no job will suit me. I think i am not suited for anything even though i am well qualified but getting a degree is an entirely different thing. I feel out of place in this world and it makes me angry. I am an introvert and i am a little insecure as well, and the worst part is that i have come to terms to the fact that i can not change myself now. Although i am insecure and act like a fool at times, and get angry at myself more often than not. In spite of all my follies which i can clearly see, i have always held myself in very high regard. I have never been an under achiever in my whole life, academically speaking. But this whole corporate world, has made me think otherwise. I am confused about what line of work may suit me. My only motive is to excel at whatever i do, but i can only do stuffs when people offer me to do stuffs for them. My personality traits make them think that i am not suited for many roles. Last two months have been very hard on me, and has left me with lots of self doubts. I also have this tendency to get bored with things very easily. I feel like an outcast whom society will never accept. I am 25, I have high ambitions, but i am confused about the path i must take. I do not even know what line of work will make me happy and what field will i actually excel in.

Answer:
Job search is really a long and daunting process. People join companies which they are hearing about and then realize that the work doesn't suit them. To be good at something you should first like the work you are doing. Hence you first need to recognize your strengths and areas of interests and have a strategic way of searching. You can use assessment tools for that (http://www.skillwill.co.in/). It assesses you on the basis of your skills and knowledge and then recommends jobs best suiting your talents and personality. You might be unaware of your true talents.

I am introvert too. But I am satisfied what I have and what I be. Everyone has his hard time, so do I. Luckily, I found the beauty of life. I have family, friends.... They need me. Even if there has no one need me, I can contribute my life to help the poor people. If you want a job, maybe you can go to China and be a English teacher. (If your mother tongue is English). My English is poor, if there have any thing, please told me.

your above wording show about your egoistic nature which is not bearable by the organization wherever you work. one thing you need to learn from life that every pond has its own big fish it take sometime to replace that fish by your worth in terms of experience and knowledge which you acquire while working under the people , listen to those people they will not misguide you. work only where you will fill comfortable but try to show little gratitude towards the people who is above you in experience . ihttp://designation.it is good to be ambitious but keep this ambitiousness till the end of the race only can make you winner and it is starting phase of your life so try to listen the people and get the good out of them to alter your life and experiences

While reading your question I literally felt like I was reading something I myself could have written. While I can't claim to have the answers, let me tell you I know EXACTLY how you feel. What I am about to tell you may not at first seem to be a 'great solution', hell it might even seem like the same old cliches that people around bore you with. But it worked for me and I think it should work for you. Go back to academia, it is the single simplest solution. Try to get a masters, maybe there is a subject you loved in school but did not dare pursue, so you went in for something that was socially more acceptable. Try and see if you can get a masters in that subject. Unfortunately for me I couldn't get the subject of my choice, so I went ahead and did my masters anyway. My masters may not be in the subject I love but it has helped me make new friends meet loads of new people. Today I don't wake up with that cloud of hopelessness hanging over my head and just the absence of that cloud makes the world a much more tolerable place. I still live with that condescending attitude that you talk of, but it is channeled in a much better way. Yes, professionally speaking there are still doubts and reservations, but trust me the biggest problem is the "place" where you are right now. Once you move on, there will be enough time to figure out what you want and how to get there, then again, even with enough time there is no guarantee you will figure it out. But all that is perfectly okey. Just move ahead, make a new beginning, meet people, reform the introvert in you and trust me u would have conquered you biggest enemy, the monster inside your head. All the best. Do write back once the deed is done.

Have you ever observed trees during storm???? Those trees which stand stubborn, straight, erect get uprooted first while the trees which bend themselves survive even after the storm is over . In short I am telling you to bring flexibility in yourself, loosen yourself . Don't be rigid , bring fun ,liveliness in your life .Regarding career ,why don't you opt for higher education ??? it will be a fresh change in your life . My dad used to say " kisiko dena nahi ,kisise lena nahi ".follow it ,stay happy .don't give a damn about others

I am not sure if my answer will help you out however would like to share my experience with you. I had the same situation 2 years ago and was totally blank with my future plans for career. I did B. Tech. In computer science which I never wanted to do since I am more of a creative person and had interest in animation or web designing though my parents never supported me in this subject. Due to my parents dreams for me I did my B. Tech with average percentage just to be eligible to apply in IT companies however, unfortunately no companies came to our campus and I had to go for walkins. I was still blank where to start with though my degree says I should go for java developer or dot net developer. I then got the job in a BPO in WIPRO. I started working there thinking that this would shut the mouth of my oarents for some time and meanwhile I will figure out what needa to be done with my career plans. Mane of relatives suggested to go for a goverment job however I am scared of Math and did not wanted to go for the boring job. So I continued and switched my company to HCL to change the BPO tag to a KPO now. I am currently working here in HCL and finally have career plans since after interacting with so many experienced people you always learn from their experience and try not to do a same mistake which your senior might share with you as a worst experience. I would suggest you to join any MNC BPO just to start interacting with people in a skilled ambience. You will find many people there undergoing the same situation as yours.

Well first of all let me say this , you sound pretty confident of yourself from that description . I don't think it is a drawback , being a naieve young mind who is about to enter the corporate world myself. All I can say if you truly believe you can do better I suggest you look into a start up. Cause given the fact that unlike me you're not an underachiever and we'll qualified you could be a boss instead of an employee.
