  • US's hysteria on Crimea's reunification proves Washington's dangerous political games By Valentin Zorin "The news of Crimea's reunification with Russia has put Barack Obama out of temper. He abandoned all he was taught at Harvard, namely history, geography, international law, as well as the rules of politeness, convenience and goodwill and started mentioning by name all the Moscow officials who displeased him, and also threatening Russia with certain punitive measures. "The hysterics in Washington on Crimea's reunification is evidence of a dangerous political game that's been conceived in Washington offices. By treating kindly Ukraine's self-styled Prime Minister recently, Washington showed the stake it places on today's Ukraine. "Speaking in terms of what politicians refer to as a "tall order", Ukraine is no more than just a piece in Washington's dangerous political game. What the US political elite is really concerned about is the US wobbling leadership and prestige in today's world. The leadership in question, - the US ruling elite's strategic goal, suffered and continues to suffer substantially in the half a century since the end of the Second World War. Military and political defeats from Vietnam to Iraq to Afghanistan, the loss in Latin America of what Washington has for 200 years seen as its backyard, the economic crisis that erupted in Wall Street in 2008 and the US astronomical 17 trillion dollar debt have had a painful effect on the US much-desired leadership. "The US ruling elite's hopes that once they won the Cold War, they would deal with a weak Russia, which would no longer be in the way to world domination, these hopes have been finally dashed. Washington clearly did not expect Russia to bounce back to the forefront of world politics with a President who is currently seen as the highest-profile world leader. "As to the 44th man in the White House, Barack Obama, who sought to improve things for the US, he is running the risk of being added to the list of those whose presidencies proved quite unfortunate. "Last autumn the United States witnessed a government shutdown for the first time ever. The country lived in conditions of dual power, in a Congressional / Presidential standoff. In autumn this year, the US is due to hold midterm elections, with Obama suffering his worst approval rating thus far. "The US has paid a lot of money and made Herculean efforts in a bid to snatch control of Ukraine, to dig in its heels, display strength, and to eventually deploy its military bases next to Russia's border. "By giving a resounding rebuff to such plans, Moscow takes care of Russia's national security and cuts down to size the Washington hawks. "So, these are the stakes that determine a lot both in the world today and tomorrow." http://voiceofrussia.com/2014_03_22/US-hysteria-on-Crimeas-reunification-proves-Washingtons-dangerous-political-games-3580/
