How do I disable the Facebook share button?

Will Facebook's Like Button replace the Share Button in 2011?

  • As a reaction to the flood of impersonal posts on peoples Facebook streams initiated by the Share Button, Facebook will completely replace it by the less spamy Like Button. So far, these are just rumours.

  • Answer:

    Facebook itself doesn't recommend the usage of share button for new developers. (http://developers.facebook.com/docs/share) So I think the share button will be deprecated sometime this year.

I hope not. I purposely go out of my way to make sure that people have an easy way to share the article or page as the primary way of posting things to Facebook. Maybe I can leave both Share and Like buttons in there for preference reasons, but I much prefer the end result of the Share button than the Like button. But, I understand why Facebook wants to get rid of it. They can't aggregate the number of Shares like they can for the number of Likes, and they have that widget that shows what other friends have liked the same thing that you're looking at. In the end, I still prefer to Share articles than Like them.
