Computer science vs. IT degree?

Will a dual degree in Cognitive science and Computer science at the graduate level better prepare for postdoc in theoretical neuroscience labs vs. Systems neuroscience (experimental + theory) graduate degree?

  • Answer:

The best preparation for any post-doc doesn't depend on the degree you get, but on the quality of the research that you do. As Bane would say: "It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan".

I keep on wondering why people always ask questions of the type: "Would a degree in X qualify me more to do Y?" My personal opinion is, if you like theoretical neuroscience, then do a graduate degree in the field you like. A PhD is a major comitment and not a pragmatic and well-calculated means to an end. You can still go to Computer Science and Cognitive Science conferences and interact with researchers from that field anyways.
