What is the water level of Lake Ochechobee?

Is the water level in Lake Merritt lower than usual in late March 2014? If so, why?

  • I noticed this while running around the lake. The last time I did this run was in early March, and I didn't notice anything unusual. This seems to be too quick a timescale to be due to the drought, but maybe I'm mistaken.

  • Answer:

Just a guess, here: Lake Merritt actually is a tidal lagoon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Merritt). Could you simply have seen the difference between high and low tides?

And tides vary, very extreme tides are called Spring tides and have higher highs and lower lows. The opposite are Neaps where the difference between high and low is much less. The most extreme Springs occur near the equinoxes.  Guess what's just happened?
