Why don't you see other links (like News, Images, Books, Maps) when you use secure search on Google?
-
i.e. when using https://www.google.com

Answer:
Google SSL search (a.k.a. http://encrypted.google.com) has the "beta" label on its homepage, which means that it's still in development. As Evan Roseman, a software engineer, mentioned in his blog post (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/search-more-securely-with-encrypted.html), "you wonât see links to offerings like Image Search and Maps that, for the most part, donât support SSL at this time."
