Should I major in Computer Science or Writing?

Would software developer or computer science graduates prefer to learn how to improve their own resume writing skills, rather than pay a company for a resume writing or improvement service?

  • Answer:

A person may write between 6-8 resumes in their life.  A professional resume writer will write that many in a week.  Plus, those of us in the Career Services industry stay current on hiring trends, technology such as Applicant Tracking Systems and the job market. To put it in perspective, should a company hire someone who does programming at home as a hobby and side-business or hire someone with a college degree and significant training?

I would rather pay to attend a class and learn how to write a better resume then pay a company to write my resume. My resume is who I am and what I've done. If I don't get a job because of my poor resume which I wrote myself, I probably did not deserve that job and would have performed poorly.
