How can one explain the phenomenon of some of today's young, educated people in India having blind faith in people like Asaram Bapu, Nirmal Baba and the like?

You can explain the fact that some illiterate, poor person being a blind follower of some of these Babas. I am not calling any of them fake let the people decide that. But the young educated people having that kind of faith some how beats me.

Blind faith in people like Asaram Bapu, Nirmal Baba and the likes is because of the way a person is brought up, the environment he/she lives in. It has nothing to do with education though all of us agree that education and science help in removing superstitions, fighting social evils and bettering lives. What needs to be understood is the current education isn't enlighting people, not helping them to inspect themselves. Education isn't teaching them to question, understand and define their faith. Education is simply fetching a degree these days. Moral science, character building, spiritual enlightenment aren't taught to students these days and the very few who strive in that direction are actually busy in propogating their own faith or way of life. I hope that concludes it.

Okay so lets have a look at who is HE first. 1) Asaram Bapu is preaching not only Hinduism but also Humanity for over 40 years. 2) He is the only saint after Vivekananda to address World Religious Parliament in US. 3) His Ashrams are conducting various youth-upliftment camps all over India. 4) Nasha-Mukti Abhiyaan which helps addicts to give-up these habbits. 5) For the poor and needy, where so called NGO's and govt. schemes dnt reach Ashram provides "Bhajan Karo Bhojan Pao" scheme. 6) Through His Discourses people come to know about the harmful effects of Junk Food & Soft Drinks.. another reason to Frame Him (HUGE loss to these companies) 7) He openly discloses how Christian missionaries are forcabley converting Hindus.. needless to say HE is the biggest hurdle in their way. 8) He is promoting Ayurveda.. another reason He is on target. 9) He has over 4 million followers world wide, and is tirelessly working for reviving Hindu culture. (you can say it is one of the main reason) And about your question- Kind of people- Mr. Writer, His followers range from high profile scientists, lawyers, docters ,engineers to a typical villager.. there is no discrimanation. All that matters is you are willing to take that plunge which will change your present and future. And NO his followers are not dumb. People like you are dumb who without knowing any thing starts judging someone.
