Are there any cool pretend status board/GUI applications?

In almost all movies involving some form of computer use or advanced technology, there is something in common with their advanced technology. From major films like Star Trek and Iron Man to micro productions like Plurality, there are always these futuristic looking software programs running on computers in the background or that character interact with that perform some cool function like managing a starship. I'm interested in finding software that can look like a cool software program performing a useful function like tracking people, monitoring military operations, or managing an AI. The only tool I know about that can successfully simulate a cool looking fictional software program and make it look like you are doing something really interesting is Rainmeter, a Windows desktop customization tool. Rainmeter has thousands of really cool skins for an otherwise bland desktop that look cool and provide information like weather and news. A similar app for iPads would be Panic's Status Board application, and some online dashboard tools. Sadly, none of these except for Rainmeter actually manage to look cool, and I need something that looks like it's doing something cooler than giving the weather like Rainmeter does upon closer inspection. Imaginary functionality, but a realistic look is the goal. To give more specific details, I'm looking for a fictional status board or program that does not have to perform a real function, it just has to have constantly changing information, look cool, and preferably have customizable text so it can be fitted for whatever work I want to appear to be doing. Many movies and TV shows have this type of thing running on computers, like on external displays in military tv shows, but for some reason, I cannot find any software that actually does that for consumers in real life. Does anyone know of any software that can replicate this cool looking fictional GUI/Status display? Bonus points to being cross operating system (I have a Mac), having different themes, performing a real function like giving useful info, and having the ability to display on a TV.
