  I use Markdown to write every single blog post I make; it's more efficient than HTML code to type, and it converts to it anyway so I can post to Wordpress or wherever I need to. If you've used Reddit, you've used Markdown, and knowing the language will allow you type what you need to format faster. Also, working in (what will eventually be) HTML code lets you know what will be output in the end, giving you complete control. Nothing is more infuriating than copy-pasting from Word or somewhere and having to strip formatting and then re-apply bold, links and italics that you wanted to keep.
