Why are firecrackers not banned in India?

  • How to send message regarding this to Honorable Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India? I am Hindu & agree that firecrackers should be banned in India & according to my knowledge firecrackers in not a part of Diwali celebration or marriage ceremony in which these are largely used... During Diwali firecrackers are used only by children who can't resist ban on firecrackers & even in marriage which is not incomplete without firecrackers & even a large population want ban on firecrackers & almost 100% women want ban on firecrackers.... Everyone knows disadvantages of these .. & as I think govt earns a small amount from these ... This is the list of countries which has banned firecrackers & all of them are developed countries • Australia • Canada (banned September 27, 1972 • Mainland China(banned & Ban lifted) • Hong Kong • Indonesia • Italy • Malaysia • Norway(Rockets banned) • Philippines –banned in Olongapo City (from 2008) & Davao City (from 2001) • Republic of Ireland • Singapore • Sweden(Only rocket type fireworks was allowed) • Taiwan(from 2008 banned in urban areas) • United Kingdom(banned from1997) • Vietnam(banned from 1994) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firecracker

  • Answer:

Yes they should, but again they should ban the following too - Air travel for pleasure or recreational activities as air travel creates a lot of pollution Those recreational road trips to Leh etc, because why create pollution unnecessarily Air conditioning in offices and homes because people live without AC all the time. Why create pollution and leave our future generation with a scarred earth just for a few degrees of pleasure Formula racing because Formula cares drink a lot of gas and create a lot of pollution Sports like cricket/football because organizing such events cause so much pollution and waste of resources And as per logic of , the people employed in these can do other work to live there life.

English is also not an Indian language but we use it in everyday life(You wrote this question in English). Hindu texts also say that the first thing you should do when you wake up in the morning is to go and touch feet of  your parents and teachers. Exactly they must be banned. but a lot of unskilled labourers and their lives depend on the manufacture of these fireworks. this might be the reason why india has not banned fireworks. maybe as we grow in to a better nation with a high standard of living we can afford to ban firecrackers but until then we need to think about the labourers.

Like most of the people here who answered, they are selfish, these selfish people value their selfishness, pleasure over effect of useless fire crackers on environment. Best bet would be to start a petition and get mass publicity. Let stupid people and kids know how terrible these firecrackers are. I know transport vehicles pollute too, u cant give up ur vehicle but you can give up fire crackers. तो पटाखे फोडना बन्द करो
