How could I get a freelancer job?

Is it okay to hire another freelancer to help you with a freelance job that you can't get done on time?

  • Answer:

Yes, it's fine, but bear the following in mind: 1) Contract Many freelance contracts specifically forbid sub-contracting, so check your paperwork. 2) Responsibility Even if someone else is doing the work,  you're still responsible for ensuring its quality and delivery on schedule. Create a simple project plan that allows you plenty of time to review your subcontractor's work before sending it to the client. You are also responsible for paying your subcontractor EVEN IF your client doesn't pay you. The "I haven't been paid so I can't pay you" argument won't wash. 3) Transparency You should really notify your client that you're subcontracting. In my experience, the truth about this normally comes out, even if you try to hide it.

This is perfectly fine as long as you are not attempting to pass off some creative work as yours, without crediting the other contributor. If it is creative work, such as photography or writing profiles, you may want to discuss adding a second person with your client first.

I think you should ask yourself what your client would think? Would they have hired you if they thought you could not finish on time, or would not personally see the job through? Quite probably not. Sub contracting is very common on freelance sites. Work can pass through many hands, so the feedback process becomes convoluted. The quality of work suffers as a result and can make the experience highly unpredictable.
