What Is The Mentor Network?

Is it unrealistic of me to think I can find a business co-founder or mentor with a network without moving to NYC or SF?

  • I'm a Big Data Hacker with a decent resume, living in a city where there are not really any founders (Richmond, VA). I have been talking to folks online, but most of the folks I have met online do not have a network, hence why they have profiles online. Honestly, how do you know they are the real deal without having to personally vet each one of them?

  • Answer:

Are you against moving to SF or NYC? I doubt a potential CEO with a network would be looking online. I'd expect these individuals to pitch great developers via email, and then meet up with them in person. Honestly, I think your best bet is to move to SF.

Try http://angel.co or looking at the local StartUp Grind events in your neighborhood.  Look for events to go to, go to those events, and vet things out.  You won't want to have a co-founder without vetting them out anyways...
