What do you think of the website http://Lockerz.com?

Answer:
(I also posted this comment on TechCrunch) Hate to burst the bubble (no pun intended), but is this website a scam? 18 million users? How is that possible when http://compete.com and http://quantcast.com say they only get about 10k unique users a month? lockerz gives people points for signing up their friends, so I bet people are signing up random e-mails as 'friends' to get free points. And since that gives lockerz higher numbers, they aren't complaining. If you do a Google search for 'lockerz scam', looks like a lot of people are angry. Someone even made a domain name dedicated to exposing them - http://lockerz-scam.com! The real question is why Kleiner Perkins gave them $30 million.

My opinion on them has changed greatly from two events: Their getting into the sFund And doing a survey of their userbase. I have no inside information on the first one so I don't know how the deal went through. The users are, in one word, scary: they really don't give a damn about lockerz or the community at all. 99% of them are in this for the prizes, all the time, all they talk about is about how to get more points with the least possible amount of effort, and it's all well documented, so detailed that if lockerz was an actual game this information would put most professional-made strategy guides to shame. I heard many explanations about how lockerz plans to make money and it all makes sense until you consider the actual behaviour of their users. And thats the problem: since they are in this for the free stuff they won't stick around if it's gone, and they don't pay attention at the ads nor will buy the products in question since they're only there to get freebies, not to actually spend money. Once advertisers realise this I doubt they'll want to place ads anywhere in this site.

I got scammed on Lockerz once, I managed to get a great amount of points via lots of chained references, so I got to redeem a Macbook Air (the top of the list) and they accused me of cheating and didn't send me a thing. I knew someone who went through a similar problem. When I saw them on sFund, I couldn't believe it...
