Are we missing the importance of Snowden?
-
THE IMPORTANCE OF ORDINARY: some people call him a traitor, guilty of treason, and think he should be hung... some think him a martyr for exposing how much the gov was illegally spying on all citizens... i could care less what happens to him or how he's viewed now or remembered latered. What's important about snowden is that he was an ordinary guy. nothing particularly special about him, though he was obviously talented in computers.. And yet somehow, this ordinary 29-year-old, became more powerful than anyone in washington... any military general... any pop star... any of the richest people in the united states.... Through an ordinary education and some ambition he found himself in a position whereby he held the United States government's balls in his hands. He could have kept their spying a secret, he could do the opposite and call them out. What matters isn't what choice he made, its that he had the choice to make at all... That's what's important!! And its all because of technology. The US government needs people to operate its programs... the only people who can do it are young, computer-savvy "kids". No old person can do it. Who do you think they replaced Snowden with? Another potential Snowden I'm sure. People say be more careful who you hire. Good luck with that! Lol. These people can earn just as much money working in the tech industry... the gov can't afford the best people, people get tired of jobs, working for a government who digs endlessly into ur personal life to assure complacency isn't very attractive to a young man with other lucrative options. This is the lesson: young people are increasingly finding themselves in ordinary positions which miraculously allows them more power than their employer. Even when its the US Government. As this phenomena becomes more prevelant, the real power of this nation will shift rapidly in two directions: 1: from DC to Silicone Valley 2: from old to young... totally bypassing the middle-aged people for the first time in history. (Hope this makes sense)

Answer:
In emphasizing his ordinariness, I think you are missing the importance of Snowden. Sure, he may have been ordinary or perceived as ordinary until he went public as the source of the NSA leaks. The scope and gravity of the leaks as well as the events that have shaped his current circumstances have yielded a man any thing but ordinary.
