How to be a website/internet entrepreneur?

At what point can an entrepreneur really call themselves an entrepreneur?

  • "I'm an entrepreneur" I hear. Oh really? "What do you do?". "Just left my job for a start up. I wanna be the next Richard Branson." Surely you need a successful exit or valuation to call yourself an entrepreneur?

  • Answer:

There's no real rules, people use it pretty loosely.  I've found the more eager someone is to label themselves as an entrepreneur, the less likely they are actually successful.  Why?  I think they like the image of being independent and a go getter who builds businesses.  I would encourage people to actually start and build something.  When you are actively working on a startup business, then you are an entrepreneur, just don't expect people to be too impressed until you actually make some money at it.

Many big startup products started off as toys / playthings. They then become businesses at some point. It's not as if you turn on a switch and you become an entrepreneur so I guess my answer is:  'you work on something full time, which you own, that will make money at some point'
