Can the iphone be used on the verizon network?

Has the AT&T network reliability improved in Manhattan since the Verizon iPhone came out?

• I am wondering if either of the following (which might be hard to distinguish) has resulted in better AT&T network performance in Manhattan recently: 1) iPhone users moving to Verizon from AT&T and therefore using less bandwidth on AT&T 2) AT&T improving their network in the face of the Verizon iPhone competition I would prefer the speed and simultaneous voice/data capability of AT&T, but am currently on Verizon so that I can use my phone reliably.

  I don't work in the wireless part of the business, so my comments are based on what I have heard in many town halls as an AT&T management employee in the past few years. These are my thoughts and may not represent those of my employer, AT&T.  We have spent billions and billions of dollars improving our network since the Iphone came out. In my opinion, no one ever anticipated how popular it would be and as well the huge volumes of traffic it would generate. There had been nothing like it in history. Our goal is to be the best. On town hall meetings our chairman Randall Stephenson used to talk about his own personal frustration when in Manhattan, and that of our major corporate customers. I believe that our sales reps in the stores now can tell EXACTLY what coverage is available where, down to very fine detail (building level), so you could see how it looks in Manhattan and wherever you travel. Drop into a store and find out how the coverage is there and wherever is important to you.
