Why does the sound keep cutting out on my new digital tv?

How do I listen to the radio feed of a sporting event while watching TV, but keep the sounds of the game from the TV if I don't have surround sound speakers?

  • The sounds of the game are far better on the TV broadcast. I'd like to somehow keep these sounds, mute the TV broadcasters, and then listen to the radio announcers. I've heard of a trick if you have surround sound, but curious if it's possible to accomplish with regular speakers.

  • Answer:

It sounds like you want to be able to hear both the TV audio and the radio audio, or be able to switch between the two very easily.  It should like you might also have hi-fi receiver/amp but I am not sure since "surround sound speakers" has recently become synonymous with hi-fi receiver/amp (aka a stereo system). Connect the audio output of your cable box, DSS, or digital TV receiver into the stereo.  Now just switch the stereo's input between the TV input and the radio.  Your stereo system remote should have dedicated buttons two switch between the two inputs.  So you will need to press the Tuner button, then then the Aux/TV input button.  In this solution there is no single button to toggle between the two. If you want to switch really easily and maybe want to hear varying levels of each you could get a separate tuner and then connect it and your cable box, DSS, or digital TV to a DJ mixer and cross fade between the two.

The real answer to your question is, you can't.  TV has an 8-second delay whereas radio doesn't. So, the feeds are always off.
