How do I get a perfect 10.0/10.0 cumulative grade point average?

I am currently a first year computer science student at a private college. How do I get into top companies like Google,Facebook,Microsoft,etc.. EDIT : I already know that getting into one of the above mentioned companies doesn't have much to do with CGPA. The reason why I relate the two questions is that being from a not so well college with bad reputation and hardly any placement record,I guess with less CGPA it would make the path of landing a job in those IT giants long and hard.(Please correct me if I am wrong). In my opinion, I think your college does matter if you want to grab an offer from one of the top notch companies. It is normally students from the elite institutes who get the bigger bite at the cherry, when it comes to campus placements and the non-elite institute students have to be satisfied with way less than what elite institute students like IITians,NITians,BITSians,IIITians,etc... get, irrespective of skill and caliberhttp://www.merinews.com/article/why-iit-students-receive-better-packages-do-they-deserve-it/15878652.shtml#sthash.TJIEsYOu.dpuf It is primarily students from such institutions that get a hefty pay package when companies come in for campus placement. But, the story is not the same for other students, irrespective of the skills that these students in these colleges have to offer. There is a huge competition among the aspirants to get those prestigious seats, but those who fail, satisfy themselves in getting into other colleges, but that does not mean that they are not good students. There may be various reasons as a result of which the student did not get through. Still, it is agreed that the students graduating from one of those premier institutes earn more. P.S. : Sorry for my bad English. Hope you could understand!

Responding to the A2A : So the thing here is you really need to work out on what you actually want to do ? Getting a 10 GPA and getting into the aforementioned companies is dis-joined set. Getting into a top 3 uni perhaps, if academics is what you plan to pursue it definitely helps (still does not guarantee anything !) Most great software companies are looking for skills and what you bring/add to them. Seeing the process from the other side of the table, it's just another datapoint on a long list of things so long as it isn't so bad that it pounces out at you. And frankly there are just so many resumes that no one even has time to look at it. It's pretty common not to even put your GPA on a resume, and if you are one of those people getting selected you generally have far more interesting stuff to talk about ;) If your primary objective is to make it to one of these places and do fun stuff. Build cool new stuff, hack away, learn interesting stuff, code & contribute. That said try to ensure you end up with a decent grade , always good to have that around, but 10 for sure not a criteria, if you can pull that off also - KUDOS . Here is something about what the folks at Facebook & Google think of it http://www.cnet.com/news/google-gpas-are-worthless/ http://venturebeat.com/2013/02/13/facebook-employment-tips/

As and have pointed out, a perfect 10 CGPA has nothing to do with getting hired at top companies. It is somewhat true that being from a not-so-reputed college makes it tough to attract the attention of these top companies. However, rather than CGPA, I'd suggest that you try attract them with good practical projects, competitive coding and internships. Projects Take up some projects in your spare time and work on them. This could be under the guidance of some professor or on your own. Build up a showcase/portfolio of sorts. Competitive Coding There are a lot of world-wide coding competitions. Winning (or performing well) in these is a good way of attracting attention. Internships Try getting internships in similar companies. That'd be a good beginning. Thereafter, your work can speak for itself. These three factors are likely to be more effective, than a 10/10 CGPA. You are asking 2 different questions. Do you want to get a 10/10 or do you want to get hired by a top company. Those have nothing to do with each other. At least in my point of view. I don't know how to get a 10/10 and neither am i interested in answering that. Firstly get the thought out of your mind that good CGPA equals good job. I have a 9.25 CGPA and no company is running after me to hire me. Average marks are sufficient. Since your in your first year, your at a very good advantage. Learn your basic concepts thoroughly and understand them clearly. Don't learn for the sake of marks, learn it for the sake of knowledge. Have good understanding of Data Structures & Algorithms and whatever areas you feel interested. Get hands-on experience in programming and learn any one language thoroughly. Increase your curiosity of why it is behaving in such a manner rather than simply knowing what it dose. Participate in programming competitions like TopCoder, CodeForce, HackerRank. Solve problems from SPOJ, etc. An ACM- ICPC finalist would be a real good catch for your resume. Contribute to open source. Companies dig it. Improve your personality and communication skill. These are not to be neglected. People skills are very important. Last and the most important point, companies don't hire people who are eager to work for them and make money. They want people who are curious to learn. Quora has grate success stories of people like and . Use them to inspire your self. And check out the other billion questions in quora which ask the same thing you did.

First of all i would like to correct you that this is a wrong perspective that one generally make that "only students from elite institutions get the bigger bite at the cherry, when it comes to campus placements". College tag doesn't have any ultimate impact on your career. Yes it's true that students from elite institutions like IITs, NITs, BITS are having some good scope but again this is not because of the institution tag instead it is so because these institutes are having some of the best brains of the country. But it doesn't mean that it is end of life for others who are in private institutions who couldn't make it through to these so called elite institutions. There are many genius people who couldn't make it through these elite colleges still they are doing best in their respective fields. If you have that zeal of doing something great then you can do irrespective of the college you are studying. Now coming back to the cgpa, there is nothing to do with 10/10 cgpa. 10/10 cgpa is not going to fetch you a job in any of the dream companies unless you are not good really at programming. Rather I would suggest you to have a decent pointer and try to participate more in online programming contests and try to involve in some good projects so that you can attract these dream companies. some of the good online programming sites are: 1>codechef 2>codeforces 3>hackerrank 4>hackerearth 5>techgig

First of all, I am amused on repetition of the immortal question- "How to score perfect 10/10?". The only perfect 10/10 score I heard last was by gymnast Nadia Comaneci in a current affair book. That was her sheer luck with the hard-work she dedicated to be the best; which later made her an exception in the sport. Nobody in this great world can guide you to score 10/10 and remember, this criteria of marks is never enough to land you up working with IT giants. The hype of getting near perfect score and the bubble dream of grabbing excellent placements through 9 or 10 cgpa is ruining potential of many who inspite of scoring average marks are deemed unfit for placements by institutes. Once a part of the placement committee of my college, all I understood from the placement sessions and interviews that companies wanted future employees to be skilled apart from the regular course taught, able to multi-task and most importantly, able to communicate effortlessly with willingness to adapt and learn. If you can be different from the herd then nobody can stop you to achieve what you want; plus facing every odd circumstance. And please, stop collaborating 10/10 score with placements. I hope with passage of time and course, you'll surely understand what it takes to stand professionally. Best of luck!
