What should a 26 years old engineer do, having no job, but willing to pursue civil services, yet wants to have an MBA as a career backup?
-
Hello friends, I am a bit worried these days. I will be 26 years old in a few months. I passed out from a premiere engineering college in 2010. Then pursued entrepreneurship for almost 2.75 years when I had to abandon it as I could not handle it anymore. After that I started preparing for Civil Services and will be giving my 2nd attempt in a few months. But now I am feeling depressed, as I am 4 years out of college and still not earning anything. I have very bleak chances of getting into a PSU as I have forgotten my engineering subject. I can write code, but I think I will not be able to prepare in private sector as work schedules are generally hectic. Sometimes I feel like quitting this, get into private sector job and go for MBA in future. My parents are supportive but I don't want to be a burden on them anymore. All of my friends are well settled and are at high positions. No one is like me. Someone please help. What should I think, what should I do now? I think I have messed up my career.

Answer:
This all mess is because you are not following your dreams. You just want to try out various options, and see anyone works. This will not solve the problem, you may end up getting a small job but would not solve the problem. Better really understand what you really want to become in life. Instead of just following what other wants to do. If you feel that you meant to be an IAS officer, then forget everything. But if you were just doing to crack it, then leave the very moment and try something which you feel you want to be!

Remember, my friend, you are never a burden on your parents. But yes its your responsibility to make a good career. Do write your exam with full dedication , coz if u start thing about other factors it will not be able to focus. But once you are done with you exam , do start searching for other jobs which are less competitive. Get into a job and get going , that will give you peace of mind and little unbiased idea about what you really wana do. Probably an year at job and you would be able to take wise decision. I knew a person who was trying for CA for past 4 years and couldnt clear . I think knowing your limitations sooner than later also plays an important role . All the best bro :-)

Give your Civil service exam. You can unleash your frustration into your exam prep. Good luck for that. Every work has its Pros and Cons. Civil service isn't easy. and so i PSU or Private sector. If you don't get into Civil service, MBA is a safe option though. Since you have 2.75 years of entrepreneurship. you know how things are. Make sure you get into the right school.. 26 isn't too old :) All the best!
