What are the biggest Keywords on internet/online?

Do wrong search keywords hurt a website?

  • 3 of the top 5 keywords that Google associates with my site are wrong: Google somehow crawls some unrelated pages on my web server and found these wrong keywords.  I am going to change robots.txt to tell Google not to crawl these unrelated pages. So the wrong keywords can phase out and hopefully Google can associate the right keywords with my site.  But someone argued that these wrong keywords bring traffic. Nothing wrong with extra traffic and no need to try to get rid of them. What do you suggest?

  • Answer:

For me it would depend on the words, there are some I definitely would not want associated.  Since my personal sites are more for fun, I don't sweat it but if I'm running an e-commerce site I would probably try to clean things up.  The search engines will profile a site and make judgments regarding what it is about and you don't want to dilute that if you're after a competitive niche.

They'll "help" your site in the sense that any keywords linked back to your site that Google finds, will help bring traffic to your site. But they'll "hurt" your site in the sense that if the keywords are drastically unrelated (such as "cell phones" linking back to a site about real estate), when people follow those search results, they won't find what they're looking for. And since part of the game is getting people to stay on your site and return to it, you're losing in the end. Good luck!

I think, trying to implement keywords which bring the right traffic is essential. You might get a lot of traffic-and they could be wrong. But if your keywords are not creating buyers then I don't see any profit .   It depends on what your website and your needs.

For me, the solution to not crawl the page is no best. It's better to do little change in your page to suit  your need. Sometimes, strange keywords can give you another way to bring trafic, for example, the synonym of your niche or words who are semanticaly close.
