How can universities market themselves?

If it's true that more than half of the syllabus taught in universities today are outdated, then how can final year students who are going into the job market prepare themselves for real world working environments with little experience?

  Internship, but with the understanding that it is not a path to full time employment at that particular company. Use the internship to get the work experience to get the full time job (preferably at another business).
