What can you do with a BS in Computer Science?

I am getting a BS in computer science from an Ivy League. I have great grades in hard classes but yet I don't feel like I am a hacker. I am not confident in implementing my ideas/apps from scratch. What can I do to improve?

  • Answer:

Implement lots of ideas from scratch. Keep going with each idea until you've overcome some major obstacles. Fail a lot. Always be learning.

By doing things and by making mistakes. First thing is to get yourself started, no matter what. Have an idea? Go ahead with it. Allow yourself to make mistakes. If it's a complicated matter to happily make mistakes at your workplace (and it generally isn't the best idea), make them in personal projects, in your off-job time. Talent means almost nothing compared to great experience. Great experience takes time. But the good news is that it will come, sooner or later, as long as you don't let fear paralyze you.
