What would be the possible consequences if we could rearrange city blocks in New York City?

Like in the board game "Labyrinth." I made a quick demo to illustrate what I mean: (NYC map image borrowed from: https://www.etsy.com/listing/68566441/new-york-city-map-1944-new-york-city) There's a board game called Labyrinth, in which you rearrange a maze to form new paths. Here's a video of someone playing it: Many cities have a rigid street grid. What could be possible consequences, if it was possible to rearrange blocks in the city with mechanics like in Labryrinth? Some (very naive) ideas I came up with: Lowering crime rate in a certain area by moving it in between blocks with a very low crime rate Regulating housing prices by fragmenting expensive areas across the city going faster from A to B because you can move the places closer together moving your block around during the day to make most of the sunlight Topics of consequences I can think of: economic social technical transportation/commute efficiency sustainability science fiction ...
