Oxfam around the world?

What may be the reason for localisation of wealth in this 21st century, as OXFAM study says 85 of the richest people are as wealthy as the poorest half of the world (i.e 300,00,00,000 people)?

  • Answer:

There is less here than meets the eye.   I could just as well say that I spend more on a cup of coffee than the total wealth of the bottom 25% of all Americans.  OMG, that must be one hell of a coffee, right?  No, any coffee will do because 25% of Americans have zero or negative net worth.  This might be due to depressed house values in the recent turn down.  But their incomes might be unchanged, and if you met them on the street you would not notice anything odd about them. We also should not forget that this is how life is in America.  We start off with college debt and/or an entry level job.  As we work hard our wages increase and we pay down our debt and eventually many of us then have positive net worth.  The wealthiest Americans are our seniors.  So the general rule is the young have low wealth and the older people have more.  But at any one time, as we take a snapshot of the country, we'll have a mix of young and old. As you might suspect, if we have a demographic wave, say the baby boomers, then that effects the distribution of ages as well as the distribution of wealth at the same time.
