Alternatives to a JQuery slider in the homepage?

  • I am tired of using JQuery sliders in the homepage of most of my sites, but clients usually want something flashy to display a few selling points of their product/company, and sliders really get the job done. What are some alternatives to sliders, that do the same function, look good and preferably have a JQuery plugin? Or at least a different enough twist on the classic slider, because there are hundreds of slider plugins that do the exact same thing.

    You can try my rondell plugin for jQuery which I've released on github. It contains various presets (slider, carousel, gallery with thumbnails, product scroller, etc...), mobile support and themes. http://projects.sebastianhelzle.net/jquery.rondell/ All presets are just a few options for the same plugin and are highly customizeable.

You want an alternative to a JQuery slider but in the second part you ask for a JQuery plugin? If you want animation that people even on mobile devices can see you'll have to stick with JQuery as opposed to Flash. Flash of course is still viable for certain situations or industries (for instance, anything entertainment-industry related can still use flash and get away with it). I think the problem with so many of the JQuery animation on site looking exactly the same is that designers just use the out-of-the-box plugin with out really adding anything different to it. You can add CSS of course and most offer different types of animation effects now. Try some of those other 100's out. What I do is find a handful that I like and are easy to work with and then show demos to the client and have them choose their preferred style of animation.
