Australian plants with medicinal value?

Name a few plants of medicinal value that one must keep in our homes?

  • Answer:

There are so many valuable and interesting plants, where their medicinal value have been proven both scientifically and by use. But if I can only name a few I'd say: Chamomile, it has antibacterial effect and is mildly fever and pain reducing. But don't take to much, that can produce nausea. Lemon balm, it's mildly antiviral and has an invigorating effect, it can be used for mild depression or bad mood. Sage, it's antibacterial and stimulates digestion. Turmeric, great for joint and muscle pains, should be eaten every day. Ginger or Garden Angelica, both generally stimulates both digestive system, cardiac system and immune system. And of course Aloe Vera for skin troubles or burns.

Aloe vera would be a prime candidate. Once the plant is in good health, cut a "leaf" or two and keep that wrapped in moist paper towels in a Ziploc bag inside your refrigerator. I know this from experience because, one time, I splashed my entire wrist with searing hot oil and my girlfriend immediately applied juice from the chilled aloe. No scarring, no blistering, no infection. As a scientist, I was instantly converted. Being a skeptic, I cannot name many others but aloe vera definitely makes the list.
