Pre-Sales people (Solution Engineers) specialize in just a few solutions, because they're expected to know everything that a customer could ask about it. Pre-sales people are generally only involved before the deal is signed, hence "Pre-Sales". Sales people in this environment still own the account relationship after the sale, even though most of the work might then be done by the consulting team.

Account Manager a.k.a Sales Rep is the person who will be incharge of any activities for a particular customer account. Mapping the right people in the account and managing the relationships are key responsibilities of an Account manager and also creating new leads by  understanding customer requirements & business model with outcomes . Account manager's vital skill is to be more strategical and aligns customer business goals to the company business goals. Pre-sales is the person who will Seed the solution to customer, qualify the lead, Presentations on New Products, Industry Trends, TCO/ROI, Roadmap discussions, Use-case gathering and converting them to Business outcomes to various audience ranging from Analyst/Admin till CXO , Proof of Concept and Demonstration of Solutions as per customer requirements, Creating Bill Of Materials for purchase. Apart from the above, the below are joint responsibilities. 1. Workshops. 2. Customer relationship management. Account manager and Technology Consultant go Hand-in-Hand and play a very crucial role in putting a strategy to achieve company goals/targets and help customer drive Business transformation aligning their goals. A Clear Strategy helps a succesfull Execution !
