How to do grouping of analytics data?

How do you get Default Channel Grouping data through the Google Analytics API?

  • I am trying to create a dashboard of Google Analytics data from multiple client websites using its API. I have tried using the ga:medium dimension to try to display the data for the websites. The problem with using this method is that the mediums can be, and have been, set by cookies on the websites themselves. This means that the data cannot fit in a tabular structure on the dashboard as the headings will change for each website. I do not have complete control of these websites so I cannot fix the problem by changing the cookie settings of them. The Default Channel Grouping headings do not change, which is why I thought of using them instead. However, I cannot see a way to get to them using the API. Thanks for your help.

  • Answer:

I have now solved this problem. The way I did it was to use the definitions for Default Channel Groupings and sort the data once it was recieved from the Google Analytics API using the medium and source values.
