How do you replace a pool light fixture?

How do you replace fluorescent light bulbs? Fixture has 4 bulbs 48" long that are dim and blinking.

  • Do I have to replace all 4 before they work? I put in 1 then 2 with no results. husband is ready to buy a new fixture! This is a home unit in a closet.

    The way to tell if flourescent tubes are done is to check the ends of the tube,if they have a black ring that means they need to be replaced.To replace them turn the tube a 1/4 turn and they should come out.But to me it sounds like the internal ballast has blown and needs to be replaced. These can be just as expensive as a new fixture.You can tell if the ballast is blown by taking off the cover and look for a tar like substance leaking out of the ballast.

Are the new bulbs dim and blinking? Sounds like the ballast is bad, in which case yup new fixture.

If you replace the dim/blinking lights and there is no change ... it could be the ballast is going bad and needs replacing.

Good answers and I will add if you replaced two And took them All out and 1 by one put them in different places and they didn't get bright - 1 bad bulb could make them dim - light fixtures like that or pretty cheap to replace
