How long can frogs stay under water?

  • Answer:

Most aquatic frogs can stay underwater for months at a time. They can breathe through their skin when underwater. They use their lungs when they are out of water. So, they can stay underwater as long as they want.

A frog must periodically surface to breathe as it has lungs and not gills (they had gills as tadpoles but metamorphosed into frogs); however a frog breaths through it nose and not its mouth. a frog can stay underwater for very long periods of time by only letting the nose stick out on the surface (like a snapping turtle does) and not the head. Like if you had a snorkel.

As long as they want. They're amphibious, so they can breathe like fish underwater and like land animals out of the water.

As long as they are not hungry. Once the feel the hunger, they have to come out of the water to fetch and eat some insects. I figure they cannot eat under water. :) Cheers.
