What is visual language and why is it important?

Why is language more important than math in computer programming?

  • The reason why I'm asking this question is because I read some posts on other forums that ask about computer programming and one of them says that language is more important than math. In addition, I also found websites that say that programming is like writing an essay/paper. My two questions are the following:1. How is computer programming like writing an essay?2. Why is language more important than math in programming?

  • Answer:

I've been a professional software developer for 35 years. I don't think of programming like writing an essay, other than that both require creativity and organization. Programming is providing instructions. You've probably heard the word "algorithm" -- a lot of TV shows and movies have been bandying it about, often incorrectly. The algorithm is the approach that the program takes, which is like an outline of an essay. Another similarity to writing an essay is that a million programmers can all know the same words, but what they write will vary greatly, with a few being truly elegant (high praise for software). As for math, it depends what kind of programming someone is doing. Business software doesn't use much more than basic arithmetic. A loan amortization program takes more. 3-D motion simulation or stress analysis for structural engineering take a lot.

Because math doesn't play a major part in programming For example a HTML code will have <code name></code name>. BB codes( which I work with well) don't really need it either, I used to make fancy posts on a forum so I know, the numbers will only be needed in font size( text or making fancyposts ( opacity, width, length etc) It is like an essay if your using random signs and gibberish as your language though.

Programing code modules have a beginning and an end and have structure. A lot of Programing code contains operations that are not necessarily mathematical. Programs that manage databases might not have any traditional mathematical expressions. Programs can be written to control industrial processes with mostly logical operations.

That's one of the strangest things... I feel like I'm missing something here? The only thing I can think of is the ability to design and plan things before you build them. Programming is mostly like programming... if you want to know, just do it.
