What Speaker Should I get?

What kind of amp and speaker should I get for my classical guitar?

  • So, my Electronics Audio teacher is having us build the boxes for speakers and just buy the plain speakers online. He told me I could build an amp for my classical guitar, but I'd need to buy an amplifier in addition to a speaker. The thing is, I have no idea what kind of amp and speaker could produce that kind of sound and those kinds of things can get pricy. Does anyone know of something affordable that still sounds a realtively good?

  • Answer:

Classical guitar means acoustic body and nylon or gut strings. That forces you to use a microphone and a transistor amplifier. Electric guitars use inductive pickups and tube amplifiers happen to be well suited to that application. The speakers are also very different.

Why not go to a Guitar Center store and ask for their help on selecting an Amp that they sell?

Normally classical guitars are Miked. Then patched directly to the PA. But any amp with a clean Chanel will work. Your guitar will need a built in pickup or buy a sound hole style pickup.
