Why do my legs itch after shaving?

Why do my legs itch? (More info below)

  • as soon as I hop into the shower, my legs (most often thighs but sometimes shins) start to itch like crazy! I scratch and scratch until my legs get these red spots on them where I scratched them. when I get out of the shower they're fine. I have been showering in the same shower for all my life so I don't understand why my legs would now suddenly begin to react like this. could it be my razor or shaving cream? shampoo? I don't know! if it means anything, I'm anemic and have Von Willebrands disease.

  • Answer:

You could be allergic to something in your body wash or shaving cream. Try a new brand! If that doesn't work then you can also switch the blade on your razor to see if that was the cause!

Yeah it could be an allergic reaction or dry skin from the water being too hot.

Allergic reactions tend to build up in the body after some time so that things you weren't allergic to in the past become present-day allergens. Perhaps try switching to HypoAllergenic beauty products (look for that descriptor on the labels) or at least to products that are made for Sensitive Skin (no dyes, additives or perfumes)?

Please have your water tested, also. My skin was affected by polluted water ( my son's, also!) call your city's water department and insist on a quality test. Also check with your doctor. Best wishes.
