Is it legal for a 16 year old to date someone over age?

  • In Canada the legal age of consent is 16 and you can date someone in a 5 year range. Would it be legal to date someone older then that 5 year range if the relationship weren't sexual?

    I wouldn't, if I were you. People won't believe that the relationship isn't sexual. The relationship could change, over time, to a sexual one. and you could get your significant other in serious trouble. Best not to be tempted.

Poppy is correct and here's the thing there doesn't *have* be actual intercourse for the "adult" in this situation to be charged. Many places and many prosecutors find ANY form or "sexual contact" to be prosecutable.. this includes french kissing, either one of you touching the other anywhere a bathing suit would cover etc. Sexting and trading "naked" pics both fall within under age porn laws and *both of you* could get in trouble for that. It's really best to avoid relationships with anyone 18+ until you reach that age yourself. (and lets be honest what 18+ yr old is going to be OK with not being able to even kiss, other than a quick peck, much less any of the rest? Heck are YOU even going to be OK with that? It's really just not worth it, sounds like a on going frustration fest if nothing else ;)
