How much for a NYS drivers License?

Will I need to re-take the drivers test to get an original NYS license even though I have had a PA license for 8 years?

  • Ive had my PA drivers license for 8 years. I just moved to NY and want to exchange it for a NY license. I know that the license being exchanged must have been issued at least 6 months prior to exchanging for a NY license. I just renewed my PA license in May (less than six months ago). So the issued date on my license says May.

  • Answer:

I don't know what the laws are in New York. I know that when I moved from PA to Ohio, I had to take a written exam to get an Ohio Driver's License. If I were you, I would just contact The DMV or go to their website to see what the requirements are.

As long as it's not expired it converts to a NY license. I would bring another proof of ID and letter or bill mailed to you at your new address. Exchange an out of state license. http://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/exchange-out-state-driver-license Click on DMV Offices: They have a new reservation system that saves a lot of time.
