Is there a dependable alternative to the U.S. Postal system
-
Literally half the time I send individual people mail in letter size it either takes a week and a half, arrives damaged or gets lost in snail mail space. Letters and priority mail either does not arrive period or is eaten by the machine. When sent to government offices. (This fact being shared to me by gov office personnel). I also ordered some t shirts for my child's b-day and it's been 2.5 weeks with no arrival. They stated 2-8 business days. I'm telling you I'm so frustrated. There is Air BnB , Ubertaxi,Lyft as alternatives to hotels and taxi service there is also task rabbit for those odd jobs that would otherwise cost a fortune and be to complicated to get done with traditional ways. So is there a safe dependable alternative to snail mail when what your sending purchasing is a physical product of some sort and not just a info letter thx

Answer:
You can always pay extra for overnight with tracking, and/or go with FedEx or UPS, but other than that, USPS is the only thing for regular mail. Really though, you should file a complaint with your post office, because what you are describing isn't normal. In 40 years I've had one letter stolen (it was returned about 5 years after the fact, once the case went to trial), and maybe a few damaged items here and there over the years, but otherwise they are fairly consistent. Also, it's called "snail" mail for a reason. It's slow. A week or two, depending on what part of the country you live in vs where it's being shipped to/from, is not unreasonable. Particularly depending on the time of year and if it's close to a holiday. Keep in mind too, business days means M-F only (not including holidays) and depends too on what time you order it. If it's later in the evening, then that is already on the next business day. Also it generally doesn't include processing time either.

You will pay with FEDX, UPS, DHL and TNT, and it will take up to seven or more business days with regular ground delivery on any of them. If you want it sooner, then it costs extra. There are no guarantees. FEDX, UPS, and even USPS will just leave the package on your front door if no one is home. I had several expensive watches delivered to me, and the first one took 23 days to get to my home, the second one 13 days. Both times I wasn't home, and they were just left on my front door by the USPS, as both FEDX, and UPS have contracts with USPS to finish delivering their packages. All three have left my packages on my front door. Anybody could have picked up the packages and no one would have been the wiser. I didn't have the delivery insured, and it would have been my word versus their word that it wasn't delivered. So I would have been SOL. But what can you do? Pay extra, I guess...

Wow, I am 50 yo and have never experienced anything like what you are saying. A letter takes 3 days at most but is usually 2 days if not one. I have never had anything stolen or lost. Once there was a fire that destroyed a shipment of mail, but I was notified that my letter was in that batch and I was able to re-post. 5 to 8 business days is about two 7 day weeks, so nothing surprising there. Also, you are on the east coast and everything is held up by weather over there. Right now, there has been two holidays (MLK Day & Presidents Day) to add time to it. There is always FedEx, UPS, and DHL if not other local carriers.

There is no reason not to use Priority Mail. Free packaging, free tracking, and only a couple of days in transit.
