How can I become a better driver?

  • I just turned 16 about a week ago and am starting to take drivers education classes now. I started driving once but I feel like my driving instructor unintentionally makes fun of my driving skills because I'm not a very good driver so it makes me not want to drive anymore or even practice driving. How to I not suck at driving? My parents sometimes get on me when I drive and that doesn't help either. I want to learn to be a better driver but every time I drive it lowers my self esteem and makes me not want to drive. How do I become a better driver?

    It is a big responsibility and you are just starting. We are all nervous and scared at first. Try to relax. The instructor probably thinks he is he helping you relax by joking with you. You just need to practice, it will come. When my Dad was teaching me I did something wrong, cannot remember what. Anyway, he did not say a word. When we got home we both sat in the car and all of a sudden he put his fist through the window. Neither of us said a word, just went in the house. Think I scared the hell out of him. It will get better.

I'm 15 and I don't even have my permit yet. I just drive on the back roads. My dad gets on me all the time just because I stopped wrong or something like that. Honestly, it's practice. I always try to drive better to prove my brother that I am a good driver. Just ignore them, don't let them make fun of you! Stand up. Don't let them bring you down. If you want to become a better driver you have to practice and even look some tips up! If you really want to become a good driver you will!

You need to practice at it more find a big parking lot and put paper cups up and drive around them and practice parking parallel parking . Hey and my mother still tells me stuff when im driving. Parents do that. Just pay attention to the road conditions and go the speed limit. And relax

I don't think they realize how serious you take their comments. It's also very big of you to give your instructor the benefit of the doubt on the "unintentional" comment. Maybe letting them know that distracted driving is unsafe and their comments are distracting, might help.
