I'm getting ready to go to college this coming fall (fall 2015) and I'm having a hard time picking a course I want to take!
-
I'm really mixed up on which course would be right for me, in kindergarten/early grade school I wanted to be a carpenter, in late grade school I wanted to be a teacher, in high school I wanted to be a doctor, pharmacist, cake and pastry, business management or teacher! but now it's the time to decide what course I would like to take for college, what's would the better choice be ? here's a little bit about me - I'm 17, I like to volunteer a lot (especially at events), I do that most of my time when I have the opportunity, I like to give back to the community I live in, I like to help others in need, I'm out going, I love constantly working ! I had atleast 10-15 jobs since I was 13 years old, been working since, so I do like being busy, also I got good/excellent grades for all my subjects I did in high school, well that's it for now and hope you can help me decide ?

Answer:
Normally the first 2 years is spent taking the general courses you need for a degree. It would be my suggestion that you take some basics so you get a feel for the classes and then add in a class that you've got an interest in. Also if you're interested in a certain company - such as Habitat for Humanity - call them up and see if there is anyone in upper management that would be willing to talk to you for about half an hour. Write down some questions that you have (how did they get their start, what kind of degree did they need, what kind of salary could you expect to make in this field, etc.). Stick to the 30 minute timeframe unless they are willing to spend more time with you. Continue to do this with other companies that you have interest in. Thank each person that gave you their time and follow up with a thank you note. Now you've got your name and face in front of them should anything come up. Good luck!
