No you need original social security card as well as ID they won't except it apply for new card.

Why does social services have your SS card? What are they supposed to do with it? Get it back. You should have it and keep it in a safe place for when you need it. In the meantime you can get a replacement from the SS Administration as others have discussed.

No, they will not hand out ANYONES social security card/number , they'd open themselves up for a HUGE law suit. It can lead to Identity theft. They will protect that card. You need to tell your future boss that you won't have your new card for a few weeks.

If dept of human services has a copy of your SS card, I'm quite sure they would make a copy for you to get a job. It is after all, your SS card. Just ask
