My violin broke- What to do?
-
Ok, even if you're not a violinist, I still need your opinion. So I have been lazy in school, but I decided to get organized when my grades were falling. My violin teacher replaced my old violin with a new one, and my mom is angry for whatever reason. She also wants me to turn in a broken bow. My new violin has been out of tune for like everyday. Since I skipped practice for a week, it is WAY out of tune. So I tried to tune it, but the string broke. AND this is where all these random sentences tie together. First of all, I know my teacher will get annoyed, and she is usually the jolly type. I have 1: a broken bow 2: no A string and 3: everything on the new violin is very loose. My mom will also get annoyed because 1: she now has a reason to complain about the new violin and 2: Since I have been lazy, she'll have another reason to complain about me .So I'm kinda scared my mom and my teacher will rip each other's head out, and most of all, that both will be dissapointed in me. My "accidents" will now be seen as bad habits, and I'm gonna also have to embarrass myself, when my teacher talks to me, because I lost my voice (for 6 months). So, any advice?

Answer:
I am no violinist, but here's what you should do: I would admit that I broke my strings to my mother and take your lumps. Your mother might be angry or disappointed, but at least you will fix the violin and bow. If she argues about not fixing it at all because of your laziness and yells at you, I would just nod my head through the lecture. You could also say (after she has finished her lecture) that you understand if she wants you to quit playing. While you might lose your craft, it would give you time to complete schoolwork and put forth more effort in class. It sounds like you and your mother to not get along most of the time. I would just explain to your mother and your violin teacher that you can pay for the damage done to the violin that broke. You must take what is coming to you and stop being lazy -- fess up and get it all over with.
