How can i make a princess costume for my horse (and me)?

My barn is having a costume contest on halloween. I'm not taking it super seriously, but I want to make princess costumes for me and my horse. I don't want to go buy anything new, so what are some easy DIY ideas for a princess costume? I need something simple that I can ride in and something that my horse will be comfortable with.

Tulle makes an easy, very puffy skirt. Instead of puting something like that on your horse, braid their mane and tail and pit some pretty flowers and ribbons in.
