How do I group different rows in a field?

Why do farmers not harvest the few (6-10) rows of corn near the road but harvest the rest of the field?

  • in the suburbs you'll see the whole field harvested but there are rows left at the edge of the field at the road. Is this to prevent blowing snow?

  • Answer:

Walt and Shalimar have valid points, here in Germany they also do this in some places to protect wildlife. Like the european field hamster, a small rodent. Like all hamsters it collects food for the winter in autumn. On a completely and early harvested field it cant find anything and therefore has almost been extinct.

Locally ... they harvest it ... unless the Spreader planted it too close to a fence or other obstacle for the Harvester. I'd ask a farmer in your area.

Walt_OReagun

I would suspect that it is because the first few rows closest to a busy road have the most exhaust pollutants.

ShalimarWildcat

Vehicle exhaust contamination. Cover for wildlife.
