How do I get rid of my fear of vomit?

How can I deal with this fear of vomiting? (it's stupid, I know...)

  • Hello. Ever since third grade, I had a very bad fear of vomiting, or anything that has to do with vomit. When I hear people talk about vomit, I immediately get worried. Even worse, when I hear someone vomit, I start panicking even more. I would cover my eyes, ears and nose because I would not like to see, smell or hear someone throw up. Honestly, I would look ridiculous when this happens. Right now I'm staying home because I am not feeling well. Instantly, I thought I had a stomach virus and I was going to throw up, so I panicked and locked myself in the bathroom just so I'm on the safe side. I am shaking and I am hoping I am not going to throw up. With me worrying about this, my stomach feels worse and I keep telling myself to calm down, but at the same time I want to force myself to vomit just to get it over with. I am so sorry for sounding like a complete wimp but is there any way I can control this fear and the situation I am in now? Thank you so much, I hope you guys have a wonderful day.

  • Answer:

At school you have fire drills, lock down drills, tornado drills, earthquake drills and whatever else may happen in your corner of the world. You do this so you know what to do IF it happens. You know you WILL experience vomiting eventually, so have you and your parents devise a vomit drill. Have your parents find a recipe for stage vomit on the internet, and then create some scenarios where they can use it.

Just remember you will feel better after you throw up

I agree, with the two above ^^ :) Getting sick (vomiting, I don't like the word lol) is a normal way on getting rid of the bad toxins in your body. I don't like doing it because I sometimes feel like I'm choking or can't breathe so I can be worried too, but, then again, it's because you had too much to eat, ate something bad, or its a stomach bug, but its your body's way on getting rid of that bad stuff. :)

Just tell yourself sometimes the body has to get rid of something that will make you even sicker. If it happens, it happens. If it happens a lot, something is wrong. I had food poisioning once. Not fun. You brush your teeth, feel better, and go on with life. Sure it smells, but that is what air freshener is for.

I have read that eating a green olive or two will help prevent vomiting in some cases. Something about the brine? Just keep that thought in your head -that you can prevent it from happening.
