An idea for cosplay costume?

Can I get some tips on costume making for Metroid Varia Suit costume?

• I've decided that for an upcoming convention that I'd like to cosplay as Samus in the Varia suit from Metroid, and I have a basic idea of what I'm going to use- it's not gonna be the best cosplay, but I want to use lots of cardboard with paper mache for the shoulders and such, and for the helmet, I can't figure out what to use for the translucent green part- I don't want to use colored plastic wrap, as it would crinkle, not to mention be dangerous. If anyone has any general tips on the construction of it or just costume making in general, it'd be helpful. If it matters, I'm 5'2 and quite skinny. I plan to invest in a wig cap to keep my hair out of my face while I have the helmet on. I apologize if this is in the wrong category- I couldn't decide on whether this should be in fashion or art. Thanks!

  You could get a green colored plastic like from a bottle. But, make sure there's somewhere to let in air. From what I've seen from Google's cosplays, the girls hold the helmet at their side, which I think looks cool (you don't need to have blonde hair, just a feminine face). :)
