Is it true that space is mostly an empty void?

Is there such a thing as a "empty space" or a "true void"?

    From a cosmological standpoint, perhaps not. What we call nothing is actually dark energy with makes up approximately 70% of our universe with dark matter making up the remaining ~30%. That means that the elements of the universe which emit or reflect light (virtually everything we can see, given the tools to see them) is an insignificant portion of the universe. I learned a poem in grade school about animals, and the last verse said, "If there's nothing on the tree, 'tis the chameleon that you see." Perhaps the nothing we see is dark energy or dark matter.

Well, you can ignore the nonsense about "dark matter" and "dark energy". If you can't observe something, it's not science -- it's fiction. The trouble with nothing is that you can't observe that either, so it's not science to spout great declarations about it. It hurts to say "I don't know," but the fact is nobody knows. Two things we know: a vacuum will store electric charge and magnetic field. You can measure the effects and calculate the exact speed of light. Those are the only observations we have.
