Hello! I was hoping for your professional opinion on my hair. I have naturally straight hair, and it is on the thin/flat/limp side- Not due to any medical issues- in fact, I always had great hair, until I started using excessive heat everyday (flat irons, curling irons, etc). I started taking a supplement, Biotin (Hair, Skin, & Nails), recommended by a hairdresser. I have also been told layers can help create the illusion of volume, but do I get long layers? Or layers throughout? I don't know what kind of layers to ask for!? I like to keep my hair long and I get my trims done regularly. So, I come to you for your advice. Layers? What kind of layers? No layers? Do you suggest a particular shampoo and/or conditioner? Basically, I have told you my "hair story" and I would just like to know what course of action you recommend. I appreciate and value your opinions. Thank you!

Answer:
Yes Some long layers can add volume, especially if you TRY to curl it a bit. Want to know what stylists on professional models use, as well as actresses. Dry shampoo! Yep, even with freshly clean hair. It adds texture that fine, flat hair doesn't have. Experiment with different brands. Lots to choose from. Seriously, all that variety isn't out there because of dirty hair only! Look into it, you'll see. PS. If you already have straight hair, lay off irons for a good while and see 4 yourself! You'll be shocked to see how much better & faster ur hair will grow especially while taking Biotin! Good luck!

Before you do anything drastic, try knocking off the heat for a little while. Also, there are some great products out there. Try Infusium Leave In Conditioner. Also, a great cheap thing that I like is called Hair Mayonnaise. I get a jar at the Dollar Store. Put this in instead of conditioner in the shower after you wash your hair, twist your hair up, take your shower and then rinse it out. Another great thing is called Argan Oil, apply while your hair is still wet and comb/brush through. Try the Hair Mayonnaise. It helped me.

My hair is like yours. Get it barely trimmed. No layers. They only add volume if your hair is naturally curly or if you curl your hair. I don't like conditioner. It makes my hair limp. I use Suave Green Apple shampoo and Suave Mousse. They are cheap but good. (I've tried everything.) Then I blow dry it or let it dry straight. Keep brushing it while it dries. Sometimes I curl the ends with a curling iron. Or braid it at night.

Good professional cut, if it's really thin you need to get rid of the length, shoulder length or above is best.
