How do you start an art club at school?

I want to start a chess club in my school, how do I do that? Principals, school administrators, chess fans, or anyone please answer.

  • I like chess, there was a chess club in my elementary school, and I'm in middle school so I want to start a chess club. I don't how to get a coach or if it's too late in the year to start a club, but I could start planning now. Do I need to save up money over the summer, enroll my middle school into competitions? I'm blank on how to start.

  • Answer:

When my son started one he asked any of the teachers if they were interested in being an advisor? Then he called a meeting in a room that was going to be vacant during lunch or another time slot, after posting a notice of the meeting and time of meeting on a couple bulletin boards around the school. When he showed up for the meeting there were a few kids waiting for him. The Advisor helped them select club officers, and set up meetings to play.....hope this helps.

Start by putting in a request to the principal (nice to submit a written one). It should not be too difficult, outline in the position paper request the benefit of having one and the healthy competitive spirit of competing against other schools it would encourage. Many schools have them.

First, talk to the principal about forming a chess club. If heshe agrees then an announcement can be made on the intercom about the details in joining the club. Great idea. Good luck.

The US Chess Federation and the US Chess Trust have programs in place to help get chess started in schools. Over the past 25 years Junior Chess has grown extraordinarily strong -- and that's happening world-wide, not just in the US. I'll leave you two links to visit for information (they'll email you details) which you can then consider. Then, as others have suggested, you should discuss it with your principal. ; Good luck. It's a great game. http://www.uschess.org/content/view/7452/131/ http://www.uschesstrust.org/chess-for-youth/

Inquire at the Parks And Recreation Department. They offer better facilities and they treat you more like real people.

Typically you need a teacher sponsor first. Math teachers are usually the chess club sponsor. Then the two of you need to figure out what goals are (recreational or competitive) and then schedule a meeting with the dean of students or the principal.
